ARTISTS’ STATEMENT

This exhibition will run throughout the month of July 2022 during regular Library hours and is free to attend.

This Printmaking Exhibition commemorates and honours two former Presidents of the Alberta Society of Artists and Founding Members of the Alberta Printmakers’ Society:

ELIZABETH ‘LIZ’ ALLEN
(November 1, 1932 – March 19, 2018)

ANTONIA ‘ANDIE’ WICHERTS
(October 29, 1930 – May 7, 2019)

Allen and Wicherts founded the Station Studio in 1977, a Calgary Artist Facility which provided space for many printmakers, including:

CAROLE BONDAROFF and STAN PHELPS

This exhibition surveys the work of four artists, in a variety of mediums, ranging from Elizabeth Allen’s multi-colour lithographs, Andie Wicherts’ traditional woodblocks, Carole Bondaroff’s etchings with chine collé, and Stan Phelps’ intaglio etchings.

This retrospective includes a display of traditional tools, published documentation and printed materials, recording the names of notable artists who printed at the Station Studio in Calgary, spanning Five Decades.
