ABOUT THE EXHIBITION
The Alberta Society of Artists is proud to present the group exhibition “It’s About Time, Space & Place” featuring the work of Alberta artists; Debra Ward (ASA), Bonnie Scott (ASA), Mary Ann Wilson (ASA) and Wanda Rottenfusser (ASA).
Presented is a contemporary sense of place developed through years of art making. The lands of Alberta are investigated from intimate settings, through feet firmly on the ground and up into a bird’s eye view. A trip back in time reveals deep roots imparting a strong sense of belonging. The exploration of the mystery and intrigue of social situations brings liminal space to light. The thread between observational painting and the alchemy of translation brings magic to the canvas. The aerial view brings a breathing view to see the big picture.
While the artists approach these themes very differently, what unites their vision is a sense of time, place, and space.
You are invited to attend the Exhibition’s Opening Reception on Saturday, May 6, 2023, from 4:00 pm – 7:00 pm. Light refreshments will be provided and all Artists will be in attendance.
The Artists
All Artists are Juried Members of the Alberta Society of Artists. You can find more information about them on their ASA Juried Member Profiles on our website, by clicking on their names below.
Debra Ward, ASA
Debra Ward is a Canadian artist born in Banff, Alberta. She has explored nature in all its wildness ever since. Her light filled paintings reflect what she loves; folds of land and the fresh waterways, primal forest and the sweeping prairie. This rich wellspring is close at hand, year round.
Bonnie Scott, ASA
My paintings reflect my responses, both emotionally and intellectually, and I engage in exploring the poetic possibilities of colour, form, and pattern. The land has become my primary form of expression and explored both through an active studio practice and plein air practice. I work in both oil and watercolour mediums and commit to painting images that reflect the beauty and joy to be found in this world.
Mary Ann Wilson, ASA
Mary Ann Wilson is a Calgary-based landscape painter who works in acrylic and oil. Please note that Mary Ann does not have an ASA profile at this time, stay tuned to earn more.
Wanda Rottenfusser, ASA
Wanda was born and raised in central Alberta and moved to Calgary to pursue a University education. In her first year she took an Art History survey course and fell in love with art. When an opportunity arose to study art history in Italy she leapt at the chance and her future course was charted. She completed her B.Ed (Art History) in 1974 at the University of Calgary.
