ABOUT THE EXHIBITION
Romancing the Bloom was created to inspire and surprise the viewer with what was once discarded, unwanted glassware. Meant to be a metaphor for life, everything, and everyone, can reinvent themselves when surrounded by the right circumstances.
My flowers are random pieces of thrifted glass and jewelry, connected through themes of color, shape, contrast and structure. Rather than starting with a design in mind, each piece shows me who they’re meant to be with and what kind of flower they want to be.
If this exhibit can demonstrate that there is beauty in everything if we look for it, including in the people all around us, then perhaps we’ll start looking at the world through the eyes of possibility.
People don’t bloom when they’re not tended to, no more than do pieces of donated glassware in thrift stores. Let’s open our eyes, try something new, meet some new people, take some chances. That’s what I do to create beautiful flowers and that’s what people do to create a life worth living.
