ABOUT THE EXHIBITION

PLANTASIA is an exhibition of vivid watercolour paintings that explores intimate views of nature and gardens that boldly captures the transcendent romantic touch of plants, gardens, and the natural world.

Each painting makes you feel like you are pushing back leaves to take a closer look. You can feel the Heliconia rostrata touching your head from above, the leaves of the lemon tree brushing your arms as you see a bee sampling a blossom, and your hands lifting the leaves away to look more closely at the
gentian. Experience glass houses and flowers intimately at their most illustrious, spectacular, and glorious.

Through the compositions I spotlight natural places to wander and sights of wonder, hoping to spark biophilia—the deep, innate connection between humans and the natural world. I am looking to evoke a sense of the Sublime—a profound greatness that inspires awe and wonder that goes beyond ordinary beauty. I aim to instil a feeling of vastness, transcendence, and humility in the face of nature’s grandeur.

About the Land

“Plantasia” is on display at the Alberta Society of Artists Galleries in the historic Crossroads Market building in the SE Mohkinstsis (Calgary).

The Alberta Society of Artists (ASA) acknowledges that what we call Alberta, where our organization has found its’ home, is the traditional and ancestral territory of many peoples, presently subject to Treaties 6, 7, and 8. Namely: the Niitsitapi (Blackfoot) Confederacy (Kainai, Piikani, and Siksika), the Nehiyawak (Cree), Dene Tha’ (Slavey), Dane-zaa (Beaver), Denesuliné (Chipewyan), Saulteaux, Nakota Sioux, Iyarhe Nakoda (Stoney) (Chiniki, Bearspaw, and Wesley), and the Tsuu T’ina Nation and the Métis People of Alberta. This includes the Métis Settlements and the Six Regions of the Métis Nation of Alberta within the historical Northwest Metis Homeland.
